A mobile game about dangerous pizza deliveries in space. The player must dodge their way through asteroids and space-traffic to get to delivery zones where they must aim and launch their precious cargo right into the customer's front door! With each run, the player earns money they can use to upgrade their vehicle, pizzeria and gear. They can also create their own wild pizzas with the unusual ingredients they unlock, name their pizzeria and design pizza flyers to share on Twitter.

For 99% of this project I was the entire Art Department. This was truly a dream job for me. I was fully trusted for my artistic opinion and had an amazing opportunity to help build a game from start to finish. I gained an unbelievable amount of experience and I'm always proud to look back and see how much I was able to accomplish in such a short span of time.

BACKGROUNDS

When creating the background parts I tried to keep things as modular as possible so we would have a lot of options to mix and match. We were aiming to keep the total number of assets low but still maintain a fair amount of environmental diversity.

The vehicles were loosely built in Google SketchUp to help me to understand their dimensions before converting them to isometric view and doing their final renders. This was especially helpful with illustrating the tilted frames of the player's vehicle.

I animated the transport truck's exhaust to look like a skull. I used Flipnote Studio on the Nintendo DSi to sketch it out first.

CHARACTERS

Characters were also created in a modular fashion. Despite their actual ridiculously tiny size in game, a lot of effort was put into rigging, animating and randomizing their looks. This made the neighborhoods feel much less desolate and a lot more lively.

USER INTERFACE

The User Interface was inspired in part by restaurant menus and retro computing aesthetic. When putting together the tutorial I had the idea that your car's artificial intelligence was guiding you. So I came up with "A-Eye". A holographic eye that would blink in and out of your view, crack some wise and possibly become your best friend. Unfortunately due to time constraints, A-Eye's personality did not get a chance to shine.
