Odd-Mented Reality

This was an appisode I worked on for the Odd Squad series in which the player gets to explore several rooms of the Odd Squad HQ in full 360 view and solve the mathematical puzzles of an entire team-up of familiar villains. For this project, my main focus was to work on special effects. I used a combination of Photoshop, Blender and Unity's Particle System / Trail Renderer to produce some interesting visuals.

Working with particles requires a lot of experimental tweaking of parameters, colours and shapes. A lot of the fun is trying to find the ideal combination that causes the particles to move in the way you would like. It's like a mathematical/visual puzzle that is very satisfying to solve.
For some of the effects, I felt like we needed to create some 3D assets. The 3D artists already had full plates so I took took the initiative to create some of my own 3D objects in Blender. The Swiss Cheese, Garlic and Fly Swatter that appeared in the above effects were the fruits of my first foray into 3D. I'm proud of the work I did for this project because it was such a great opportunity for myself to flex my resourceful muscles learn a bunch of new skills.
